Teacher Training

The Instructor's Path

In this lineage, becoming a teacher is a serious responsibility. The teachings must be passed on correctly, or over time they become muddled and watered down.

The Core Curriculum exists to carry these ancient teachings and their method forward as clearly and efficiently as possible, to as many people as possible, using modern online tools, under the guidance of Grandmaster Waysun Liao.

Why it takes time

Real Tai Chi is learned like a language

Tai Chi takes years to learn, and often decades to master. It isn't something you pick up from a five-minute video.

Like becoming fluent in a new language, it can't come from a few classes; it grows through steady study, practice, and correction from a teacher. That's why this path is deliberate.

The Journey

From student to teacher

Each step builds on the one before it. Move at the pace your practice allows.

  1. Step 1 · The Foundation

    Core Curriculum 1

The foundation of everything that follows. You learn the meditative aspect of the practice and how to practice correctly: what to do, what to avoid, and the common errors that hold students back. Just as important, you begin learning to notice those errors in other people.

  2. Begin learning to teach earlyYou don't have to wait to start studying how to teach. It begins with correcting yourself, then grows into helping a range of students with different problems and starting levels.
  3. Step 2 · Connection & Integration

    Core Curriculum 2

Building on the foundation, you explore advanced single-form training, Qigong development, Tai Chi ball training, feeling-awareness, coiling and uncoiling, and traditional Qi theory. You learn how individual forms relate to one another as part of a larger method, and develop the understanding needed to explain, demonstrate, and refine practice.

  4. Step 3

    Proficiency

Become proficient in all of the material from both courses: not just familiar with it, but able to embody it. Video reviews with a session leader can support your progress.

  5. Step 4

    Private sessions

Your practice is verified and examined by your teacher in private sessions, so that what you have learned is confirmed to be correct.

  6. Step 5

    In-person retreat

Attend at least one in-person retreat to train together, in person, within the lineage.

  7. Step 6 · The Goal

    Session Leader

Qualified to share at the level understood, while learning continues, as part of the lineage of Grandmaster Waysun Liao.

There are several levels of instructor along this path before becoming a certified instructor.

Readiness

Ready to teach?

There is no fixed timeline. Readiness is not measured in weeks or months but in the quality and understanding of your practice.

Your teacher works with you directly, observes your progress, and lets you know when you are ready.

Readiness is determined by your teacher, not by the calendar.
